A world away

My facebook home page is full of status updates about the first day of school. Photos of children I haven’t seen in 2 years smiling with new backpacks and neatly brushed hair. Some of these kids are the same age as Cameron and they are starting kindergarten, the big first day of school ever.

But here I sit, all the way around the planet in another world it seems. Where Cameron has already been through 3/4 of his first year of school and instead of it being called kindergarten it is Prep. We are dressed in winter clothes still (even though today is the first day of SPRING!), while back on the east coast it is still hot and humid and the end of summer is near.

This coming weekend is Labor Day in the US. But here in Australia, we will celebrate Father’s Day instead

With as much technology to keep me informed and connected with life back home, there is no way around the fact that we are living a world away.
