Another reason I know he’s mine

I was born with Strabismus and had 2 surgeries to correct it. Little did I know that because of this, my children would have a 1 in 5 chance of having it as well. At the end of November, we noticed Jake’s eye was turning in. Knowing we were going back to the States for our visit, we decided to go see an opthamologist there. We went and he was prescribed glasses (so cute, but imagine trying to get a 3-year-old to wear glasses and not leave them all over the place or chew on them!) When we were at the doctor’s office in NJ, he said we should follow-up in 6 weeks to see how he is going with the glasses, which obviously wasn’t going to work for us, seeing that we live 10,000 or so miles away. He happened to know of a doctor in Melbourne that he has met at conferences in Philly (imagine that!) and referred us to him. This doctor in AU is a strabismus specialist and actually lived in PA for 20+ years. We had a nice chat about the city of Brotherly love and I immediately knew he was the right doctor for us.
Fast forward to our 6 week follow-up appointment yesterday – the doc prescribed a new prescription and said that the surgery is “likely.”
I guess I figured it would come to this – but surgery! I have had the same surgery – twice – but still the thought of my baby having an operation on his EYES kinda makes me queasy.

Hopefully I have passed my ability to remember license plate numbers on to Jake as well, and not just my crossed eyes.

  1. Jake will be fine and I’m sure the eye surgery procedure has come a long way since you had it such a LONG TIME AGO!!! He is adorable & he got that from you, too!
