Best Mates

Cameron made his first friends when he was 3 months old, when we joined a Gymboree class back in New Jersey. I still keep in touch with many of them and we just got together in January for the first time in 3 years.

With Jake, since he is the second child, he always just tags along with Cameron’s friends, or their siblings. He always loves playing with the older kids, but sometimes that doesn’t work out so well (like when Cameron will pile up heaps of toys at the bedroom door so Jake can’t get in to play with them, poor guy!) So when Jake met Charlie at Treehouse last year, it was the first time he made a friend completely on his own. We met Charlie for the first time when we started swimming lessons and we all went to the cafe afterwards. Little did we know back then, how close they would become.

This is how close they are: often after spending the whole day at school with Charlie, Jake will accidentally call Cameron “Charlie”, at naptime I hear Jake having “conversations” with Charlie, if Jake gets to school before Charlie, all he does is ask where he is and when he is getting there, when they see each other, they greet each other with a big hug, and when the day is over, they say goodbye the same way, also with a high-five.

I had Charlie at our house today for a playdate and I was so amazed at how well they play together. There was not one argument or disagreement over toys, they just had the best time.

All they do is have fun together:

  3. I wish sound came with that picture – that smile is infectious!

  4. I can totally relate to that as I hear Charlie having conversations with Jake as he lies in his bed and all he wants to do now is move into Danielle’s house!! They really are great friends!
