A new age bracket

So now I have to check the “35-40” bubble on questionnaires. Oh well, at least I can still color my hair and pretend that I am still only 29. Getting older? It is unavoidable, so why don’t we just embrace it, instead of trying to fight it? No matter who you are, where you live, how much money you have, what your IQ is, we all get older no matter what. And our kids: they get older too, and I think that is harder for me than my own aging process. I have noticed lately how tall Jake is getting, and how “grown-up” Cameron seems to me. I should embrace this too, enjoy the process of growing up and changing.

When we go back home for a visit, everyone we see will look so different, and we will too, but for us EVERYONE will have changed, for them, just 4 people. It will be so strange, like attending your high school reunion, recognizing people, but in disbelief as to how different they looked. I wish I could be there to see my nephews as they get taller, get their braces, change their hairstyles. Seeing each other on the webcam is not the same, you miss the progression. I think about how different my boys will seem to them too, babies turned into kids.

Maybe I’m wrong and we won’t change that much….I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

  1. Lucky for you and your sister, you both inherited my genes, and will be “forever young”. ;0) It’s what in your head that counts, so keep thinking and living young at heart. So far, it seems to have worked for me!

  2. Amen!! I love that we are forever young!! I know what you mean, the webcam is great, just not the same. You can see that the kids are changing, growing, getting bigger, but when I stand next to my son and he is almost as tall as me, it hits me. I too, miss being physically together to see your boys grow, the pre-schoolers vs. the pre-teens, both will change in so many different ways! For now, let’s enjoy the time we have together, both still below the big 4-o!! Happy Birthday to the best sister in the whole wide world!! XOXO
