Australia Day

(From Wikipedia):

Australia Day, also known as Anniversary Day and Foundation Day is the official national day of Australia, Celebrated annually on 26 January, the day commemorates the arrival of theFirst Fleet in 1788, the unfurling of the British flag at Sydney Cove and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia.

I guess it is similar to July 4th in America, we had a BBQ on Sunday, and Monday is a holiday, no work & everyone is out celebrating. We went downtown to Federation Square and saw the end of the parade and enjoyed a Bagpipe Band, it was a lot of fun. There were some people dressed up with AUSTRALIA painted on their arms/legs, wearing AU flags, etc. Street performers attracted crowds, the smell of sausages wafted through the air, and the sun was shining. Overall it was a good time, except for the boy’s meltdowns, which had nothing to do with Australia Day, they were just overtired. There are many fireworks displays after sundown (9pm), but I’m not sure they boys will be able to stay awake for any of them.
